Rachel Jimenez: Money Hacking Mama, $497K on Etsy, Financial Independence, Achievement & Happiness | FRLP 118

Rachel Jimenez built an Etsy side hustle into a six-figure business and left her full-time job. Today, freedom looks like going to the gym at 10 a.m., having control over her schedule, and choosing work because she wants to do it.

But when you could stop working, what keeps you going? And how do you know when the pursuit of achievement is making your life better—or simply giving you another goal to chase?

In this episode of the Fit Rich Life Podcast, I sit down with Rachel, the founder of Money Hacking Mama, whom I met at FinCon in Palm Springs. Rachel shares how she went from juggling a full-time job, graduate school, and two young children to building an online business that gave her more control over her time. We trace her financial independence journey back to discovering Mr. Money Mustache, working toward a 50% savings rate, and building wealth alongside her husband.

Then we get into the business itself. Rachel explains how she found opportunities selling digital products on Etsy, why researching what people already want changed her results, and how she kept going when her shop wasn’t making much money. We talk about the first sale that makes online income feel real, what “passive” income actually requires, and how AI is changing the opportunity for creators.

We also explore achievement, happiness, and the moving target of “enough.” Rachel and her husband reached their original FI number, but a bigger home and different lifestyle goals changed the calculation. She shares why she believes she could stop working, why she still chooses to teach and create, and what she gets from helping other people build Etsy shops, grow online businesses, and move toward financial independence. I also open up about the pull of returning to a high-paying career despite loving the freedom I already have.

Finally, Rachel shares how she uses the PERMA model—positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment—to make more room for happiness in everyday life. We talk about scheduling date nights, finding people who support your goals, making movement enjoyable, and building a life that feels good while you’re working toward what’s next.
