FRLN95: Reversing Your Age, High Net-Life, Primal Energy Season

I just recorded a new podcast with my friend Coach Chad Carson (A real estate investing Coach and work-optional Millionaire), who I got to hang out with at FinCon.

His last appearance on the podcast was a favorite, and this one’s loaded with upgrades since then.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

  • The new WHOOP Age feature I’m using to push my “pace of aging” below zero (and the simple VO₂ Max protocol behind it).

  • The shift from “high net-worth” to high net-life (plus a dumb mistake I made at FinCon that reminded me why this matters).

  • Understanding what season of life you are in (and optimizing for peak energy).

Let’s dive into building your Fit Rich Life…

FIT — How I’m Getting Younger

WHOOP recently launched its WHOOP Age feature.

An age score derived from metrics like resting heart rate (RHR), heart rate variability (HRV), VO₂ Max, sleep consistency, and more.

I’ve been geeking out on it because it also shows your pace of aging: from +3.0 (aging three times faster) down to negative values (getting biologically “younger”). I already had most of the levers dialed in, but I just pushed mine into the negative pace of aging (getting younger weekly) by optimizing this specific one:

VO₂ Max

Two moves did the heavy lifting:

  1. A lot of Zone 2, also known as “conversational cardio”… things like pickleball (LOL).

  2. High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) — after a 5-minute warmup, I’ll run hard (or crank the Peloton) until I reach Zone 4–5, hold that pace for 1 minute, then easy run/pedal for 1–3 minutes. And repeat for 3–6 rounds. Total workout time: 12–20 minutes. (Simple, scalable, and improves VO₂ Max fast).

Why am I so obsessed with VO₂ Max right now?

Because it’s one of the strongest predictors of healthspan and longevity. Which is why WHOOP Age weights it heavily.

Proactively work to increase your VO₂ Max, dial in your sleep, track your key health metrics, and you’ll be on the path to lowering your biological age.

Remember, like I always say.

What gets measured gets managed, empowered, and manifested.

And if you’ve got an inkling that your sleep habits aren’t completely dialed in… On the pod, Chad reveals a strategy he uses to improve his recovery and energy levels at the age of 45.

RICH — Avoid Playing The “Wrong Game”

At FinCon, I made a huge mistake.

I split a room to “save money.” My roommate was a great guy, but he snored like a chainsaw. Three nights of compromised sleep degraded my recovery, my energy, and my ability to be fully present. And that’s when I realized old, outdated mindsets were holding me back again.

I’m already a work-optional Millionaire, so saving that extra $500 dollars didn’t matter here.

I could have bought back my rest, recovery, and had a nice, quiet place to unwind and get some alone time at an otherwise high-energy social event.

Meanwhile, I spoke with multiple FI folks worth $2–5M+ who are still either:

  • Pinching pennies they don’t need to pinch, or

  • Grinding for a bigger net worth, they have no plans to use

If that’s you, I love you — but it’s the wrong game.

A big idea from Bill Perkins’ Die With Zero: spend more on experiences earlier that you can’t buy back later (climb Machu Picchu at 45, not 85).

Those experiences pay “memory dividends”. We discussed this on the pod, too. And how frugality is an amazing seasonal tool that must be retired (or reshaped) once you’re financially independent.

Otherwise, you short yourself the freedom you spent so much time & energy building.

That’s why I’m in the season of shifting from High Net-Worth to High Net-Life.

If you’re in a similar situation, where you’ve got more than enough money and some unmet dreams sitting on the shelf… It’s time to put that money you’ve been saving to good use.

Chad, on the other hand, he’s entering his “Gandalf” phase…

LIFE — Which Season Are You In?

Chad’s totally fired up, and he’s scaling again.

Not to hoard cash, but to build a team, fund local trail projects, and make a concrete impact on his people and his community. That kind of ambition hits different because it serves a mission beyond your own personal comfort.

Meanwhile, I’m in a different season.

I'm still coaching, podcasting, and creating to make an impact on the people around me.

But I’m not prioritizing business.

Instead, I’m prioritizing the primal, masculine urge inside me to compete, to play, and to enjoy my community.

Right now, pickleball has me fully alive. And anything that gets too much in the way of that, needs to get cut.

Neither is “better.” Both are seasonal fits.

Here’s a reframe that’s helped me, and a lot of men in particular:

Physical competition is medicine.

Playing a competitive sport animates your masculine energy (for women, too). The Greek root of “to compete” is “to rise together.”

The energy I bring to the court spills into my business, marriage, and community.

If you feel flat, don’t just “work out”, compete.

Engage in a physical sport that forces you to play to win.

And whether you win or lose — use each competitive game to fuel improvement.

Through this process, you will tap into the infinite well of primal communal energy that you can harness and use in all areas of your life.

On the pod, Chad reveals the secret he uses to build wealth without burning out (even while running multiple businesses and raising a family).

ACTION — 5-Minute Upgrade Menu

Pick one and implement:

  • FIT — Schedule TWO 12-minute HIIT sessions this week and put them on your calendar now.

  • RICH — Book one “Memory Dividend” experience in the next 30 days (date + deposit).

  • LIFE — Start playing a competitive sport (pickleball, hoops, etc) or sign up for a race (running, biking, etc) or competition (climbing, bodybuilding, etc) that will force you to compete, improve, and grow together with your fellow humans.

Your Fit Rich Life isn’t a someday fantasy. It’s built by the decisions you can make today.
