“We don't rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training.”
— Archilochus, Greek Poet

Greetings Fit Rich Fam!

This past week, I released a new podcast interview (episode 70) with Justin from Root of Good (blog) who retired early at 33 with three kids.

He’s been retired for the last 10 years and just keeps getting richer every year as his money continues to work for him while he focuses on enjoying his life.

I think he’s an incredible example that showcases that Financial Independence is possible for anyone as Justin and his wife never made huge salaries.

They were just intentional and stuck to their goal of Financial Freedom.

Without further ado, let's proactively build your Fit Rich Life.

This is your weekly dose of actionable tips, tools & strategies to take your Fitness, Money, and Life to the Next Level.

FITNESS: 3 reasons you're not building any muscle.

If you're skinny-fat or just can't seem to put on muscle pay attention to this.

Here are the three biggest reasons you're not building any muscle:

1. You're not getting enough protein.

Protein is the building block of muscle.

Aim to get 0.6 grams to 1 gram per pound of body weight.

The most recent science shows us that 0.6g is more than enough for most, but my experience working with 60+ people over the last 1.75 years is that some “hard-gainers” do better on 0.8-1g per pound of body weight.

2. You're not following a workout program that utilizes progressive overload.

Progressive overload is where week over week you strategically increase the load placed upon your muscles.

This causes muscle growth.

The main ways to do this are by increasing either the reps or weight or a combination of both.

You can also add additional sets to increase the load week over week.

Most people don't follow any specific workout program or utilize the principle of progressive overload and this is why most people look about the same (if not worse) year after year.

3. You're not pushing hard enough during exercises.

Going through the motions in a workout is not going to result in muscle growth.

Muscles grow when there is enough stimulus to cause hypertrophy.

Aim to push yourself in each exercise with a heavy enough weight that you only have 1-3 reps (with good form) left in you by the time you reach the end of the rep range.

For example, if you had a set of bicep curls that called for 12 reps you would choose a weight that would only allow you to get 9-11 reps before you had to break form to achieve the 12th rep.

MONEY: 3 reasons you’re not rich.

If you're not getting increasingly wealthier quarter after quarter then you suffer from one or all of these so pay attention.

1. You are shackled by debt & addicted to lifestyle inflation.

Debt and lifestyle inflation are the reason most people are not rich.

You cannot get ahead financially if you are a slave to servicing your debt.

Having debt is like attempting to row a leaky boat to financial freedom.

You're spending all your energy and time bailing water out of the boat so you don't sink versus actually rowing toward greater levels of financial freedom.

In my work as a money coach, I find that debt and lifestyle inflation tend to go hand in hand.

You will never get ahead financially if every time you earn more money you just end up spending more money.

2. You don’t track your money.

The key to solving your debt and lifestyle inflation problem is to track your money.

What gets measured, gets managed, empowered, and manifested.

By tracking your money you can aggressively pay down your debt, avoid lifestyle inflation, and create a gap between your income and expenses.

The gap between your income and expenses is your savings rate.

Your savings rate is the percentage of money you actually keep after your expenses.

The larger your savings rate, the faster you move towards greater levels of financial freedom.

By tracking your Savings Rate you can consciously choose the speed at which you personally move towards Financial Independence (the point at which all paid-work becomes optional).

Tracking my savings rate is the single most important thing I did to get myself out of $80,000 of debt and go on to become a Multimillionaire.

I’m not special.

If I can dig myself out of that much debt in my mid-30s and go on to become Financially Independent, so can you.

Lucky for you, I’ve put together a free Fit Rich Life Savings Rate Money Tracker and teach you how to track your money using a free app.

The key to getting ahead with your money is getting started AND putting the systems, tools, & support in place that will get you where you want to go.

I’m not shy about admitting that I had a lot of support in the form of coaching and mastermind groups to help me go from financial disaster to money mastery so if you’d like support consider booking a free consultation with me.

3. You don’t invest.

This is another critical component of getting rich.

You can’t just save more than you earn.

You have to diligently invest what you’re saving so that you’re money can work for you.

Far too many people wait on the sidelines and never start the investing journey.

Even if you're just investing $100 a month into an S&P500 index fund you have to get started.

LIFE: Elite performance is 80-90% mental.

Whether it's building your fitness, growing your income/career, or entrepreneurship, your performance will be governed by your Mental Strength.

In other words, you can only raise to the level of performance that your mind will allow you to.

This is why I treat my mind like a muscle that needs consistent high-level nutrition and training to unleash my potential in all the other areas of my life.

Mind muscle nutrition comes in the form of consuming empowering books, podcasts, videos, and courses.

Mind muscle training comes in the form of meditation, affirmations, visualization, goal-setting/achieving, and building businesses.

And just like I get support for my fitness & money in the form of empowering friends, mentors, coaches & masterminds I do the same for my mind muscles.

You will rise or fall to the median Mental Level of those you surround yourself with.
