Greetings Fit Rich Fam!
At the beginning of the year, I like to think through what I want to accomplish in the coming year and get crystal clear on my goals.
In this newsletter, I share a straightforward approach to setting and achieving goals along with my top two strategies for Fitness and Money (two for each).
Without further ado, let's proactively build your Fit Rich Life.
This is your weekly dose of actionable tips, tools & strategies to take your Fitness, Money, and Life to the Next Level.
FITNESS: If I could only recommend two fitness strategies for the entire year, this is what they would be...
(1) Track your nutrition.
What gets measured, gets managed, empowered & manifested.
Studies show that people underestimate how many calories they eat by about 50%.
This is why most people tend to keep adding unwanted body fat year after year.
Two things happen when people start tracking their nutrition.
They realize they were eating way more than they thought.
They start eating better because they're being mindful of what they're putting into their bodies.
Another huge benefit of tracking your nutrition is you start to realize that you can eat all the foods you desire and still achieve your fitness goals as long as you keep yourself in a slight calorie deficit.
Even better, if done strategically, you can feel full and satiated even while in a calorie deficit.
I know this because I've been doing it for a decade.
Plus, I've helped 60+ people learn how to strategically eat in a way that they absolutely love and achieve their best body via my Fit Rich Life Coaching Program.
I achieved the physique I have now with the help of my own fitness coach back in 2014 and have built upon it over the last 10 years.
If you're ready to finally get the body you've been wanting this year consider booking a Free Consultation with me to see if my coaching program would be a good fit for you.
I'll teach you everything you need to know to not only master your fitness, but I'll also teach you the tools and skills to reach Financial Freedom and live a life you truly love.
(2) Get 10K-20K steps per day.
This is the most underrated fitness strategy.
Every super-fit person I know moves way more than the average person.
The average American only gets 3,000-4,000 steps a day.
Over 66% of Americans are overweight or obese.
In other words, the average American is overweight or obese.
The lesson?
Don't be average.
Aim to get at least 10,000 steps per day.
And if you want to be super-fit aim to get 15,000-20,000+ (this is what I do).
The number of steps you take per day is a function of your habits and lifestyle.
The key for most people is to optimize your work environment as we all spend 1/3 of our time at work most days.
Here is how I've optimized my work environment to support me getting 15k-20K+ steps per day.
MONEY: If I could only recommend two money strategies for the entire year, this is what they would be...
(1) Track your money with a free App like Empower Personal Dashboard (formerly Personal Capital).
There are other apps, but I've been using Empower since 2014 and it's what I have all of my coaching clients use.
(2) Track your Savings Rate.
Once again... What gets measured, gets managed, empowered, and manifested.
Tracking my money with Empower Personal Dashboard and tracking my Savings Rate are two of the main things I did that empowered me to go from $80,000 in Debt to a Millionaire in a little over 2-years and then go on to become a Multimillionaire.
I've put together a Free Fit Rich Life Savings Rate Money Tracker for all of my readers along with a short video tutorial on how to use it in conjunction with Empower Personal Dashboard.
The other two main things that led me to reach millionaire status were getting coaching and joining a mastermind (both of which are provided in my coaching program).
LIFE: Set your year up for success by clearly defining your top goals and ensuring that you review them daily.
Here is what I do with my coaching clients and myself:
(1) Choose 1-3 goals for the following areas:
Fitness
Money
Work
Life
Then visualize yourself at the end of the year in December 2024 and ask yourself:
“What will I have achieved that will make this the best year of my life for my __________ (Fitness, Money, etc.)?”
(2) Make it a SMART goal.
This means that it is Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
Example: Achieve 10% Body Fat by June 1st, 2024, and maintain and improve upon it throughout the rest of the year.
(3) Repeat steps 1 & 2 for each area.
Once you have clearly identified your goals the next step is to put them up in a place (or multiple places) that will ensure you see them daily.
Here are my favorite places to put them:
Wallpaper of my smartphone.
Wallpaper of computer.
Bathroom mirror.
The door of my office.
Hanging from my rearview mirror in my car.
The reason this is such a powerful strategy is that your mind is a Goal-Seeking machine, but in the age of Digital Distraction, we are constantly being programmed to go after the goals of other people and society via Social Media, News, Parents, Peers, etc.
You must deliberately reprogram your Goal-Seeking Machine to go after what you want by refreshing the programming daily.
By having your goals re-inputed into your mind numerous times a day you will consciously & subconsciously work on them and take infinitely more action towards achieving them.
You will also notice more opportunities to achieve them when you keep them at the forefront of your mind by activating your Reticular-Activating System (RAS).
Some more notes on Goals:
Don’t share them publicly. Sharing them publicly releases dopamine making you feel like you accomplished something. Instead, quietly work on them. Then after you have achieved them share what you did.
Having too many goals tends to lead to nothing getting done. I like to ask myself if I could only achieve one goal what would it be? Then I put that at the very top of my Goals Doc. Then I ask myself if I could only achieve 3 goals what would they be? Then I put those under my top goal.
Identify the key performance indicators (KPIs). These are the things you must do daily/weekly to achieve the goal.
Work on your top goals first thing each day.
Closing Thoughts:
What are you going to do differently this year so that you're not in the same place (or worse) at the beginning of next year?
Asking myself this question and then taking action on the answer that I came up with empowered me to achieve some of my biggest goals that I'd been dreaming about for years.
Let's make this year our best year yet!
