Greetings Fit Rich Fam!

I'm back from my 2-year Anniversary Trip to San Luis Obispo County & it was jam-packed with memories that will pay happiness dividends for the rest of my life.

This is your reminder to get that next trip booked. It will give you something to look forward to, it will serve as a break from your regular work/life which will rejuvenate you, it will give you space to reflect on where you are at in life, it will allow you to see what's going well & what needs to evolve, and it will pay you in happiness dividends for the rest of your life.

Without further ado, let's proactively build your Fit Rich Life—FRL! Your weekly dose of actionable tips, tools & strategies to alchemize your Fitness, Money & Life to the Next Level.

FITNESS: Proactively build your local fitness community & plan outings.
Yesterday, I went back to Stanford University to meet up with my friends to go Rollerblading. Yes, I rollerblade regularly because I'm cool AF like that.

I used to go rollerblading with my friends on Stanford Campus every single week, but since moving to Santa Cruz County I haven't done as much group rollerblading because my original crew is all based in the Stanford, Menlo Park & Palo Alto area. And though Stanford is only a 45-60 minute drive away from where I now live it's just far enough that it's a bigger hurdle to text my crew to go for an impromptu group blade either here in Santa Cruz or at Stanford as either myself or my friends will have to do a 90-120 minute round trip to meetup.

In my mind there are three major ways to solve this challenge (opportunity in disguise):
(1) Build up my local group of friends here in Santa Cruz County who are into rollerblading so that I can reclaim my ability to text local friends to go hit up an impromptu blade session.
(2) Plan outings with my OG Blading Crew more in advance & trade-off who's doing the longer commute.
(3) Choose some new rollerblading locations between where I now live & where my OG friends live so that we have an equal commute. This will give us an excuse to explore. Novelty via exploration is always a surefire way to make life richer.

I plan to implement all three of these as they will all add to the richness of my fitness & life.

Please let this Fit Rich Life Strategy serve as an encouragement to build up your own local group of friends to go workout, bike, hike, rollerblade, paddle board, do yoga, take a group fitness class, etc.

PRO FIT RICH LIFE TIP:
If you frequent a gym, fitness class, running/biking route, or other regular fitness/sporting environment don't be afraid to introduce yourself to the people you repeatedly see.

Here's my go-to script:

"Hi, I see you here all the time & I love to connect with other people who are into _______. My friends call me Dragon. What's your name?"

Then each time I see this person I say hello & I'll add a bit more. Here are some examples:
- "So, besides _______ what else are you passionate about?"
- "How long have you lived here?"
- "What do you do for work?"
- "Got anything fun planned for this week/month?"

Now every time you see this person you can smile, greet one another, & spend a minute or two getting to know one another better. This human in-person interaction releases all sorts of feel-good chemicals in your body & will make your fitness habit even stickier. Over time you will get to know one another better as you stack short interactions together.

Before you know it, you will have a bunch of friends who are into the same type of exercise you're into. You can grab workouts together, bond over mutual interests, share ideas/tips/strategies/resources, and build up your own local Fit Rich Community.

BTW - if you are into rollerblading I highly recommend getting into what I call Dragon Blading. It will take your Fitness & Fun to the Next Level!

MONEY: Consistency over intensity.
I wrote about this same concept regarding fitness in a previous newsletter, but it's incredibly applicable to money as well. You do not need to make a massive amount of money to get rich. You do not need to invest massive amounts of money at any one time. You do not need to radically cut all your living expenses down in one month. Instead, do this:

(1) Get yourself set up to consistently make more money each month, quarter & year. This can be done within your current job by setting a monthly or quarterly meeting with your boss to review your accomplishments and plan out what needs to be done to ensure a good raise in the near future. At the same time, you can spend a little bit of time each day or week exploring a side hustle that could bring in a few hundred extra bucks each month. If you do this long enough you'll eventually stumble upon a side hustle that makes you a lot of money. This side hustle could even end up superseding your 9-5 income. But that will never happen if you don't start trying different small entrepreneurial endeavors.

(2) Set up automatic investing through your company 401K or with an online brokerage account like Schwab, Fidelity, Vanguard, or one of the other countless brokerages available today. Or better yet, do both. Even if you can only afford to invest $25 a month that small amount will grow over decades.

(3) Each month review your expenses with an app like Mint or Rocket Money to see if any expenses aren't aligned with your goals & values. Over time this habit will get you aligned with what's truly valuable to you & empower you to truly go in the direction you want to go.

LIFE: Knowledge becomes power when you put it into ACTION.
If all you do is learn recipes you will starve. You have to cook to eat.

If all you do is learn about fitness & workouts you will be out of shape. You have to train & exercise to get in shape & build a fit physique.

Just learning about business, money & investing will leave you broke. You have to go out & build the business, proactively manage your money & put your money into investments.

If all you do is read this newsletter without taking any action on the insight then you are just participating in what I like to refer to as "mental masturbation" -- it feels good but doesn't create a Fit Rich Life.
