“Consistency is what transforms average into excellence.”

Greetings Fit Rich Fam!

This past week I released a podcast episode about my first year of podcasting. I share reflections & insights as well as all the software, equipment & work it takes to have a successful weekly podcast. If you have ever been interested in having your own podcast this is a great episode that will prime you with everything you need to get started (and keep going).

Without further ado, let's proactively build your Fit Rich Life—FRL! Your weekly dose of actionable tips, tools & strategies to alchemize your Fitness, Money & Life to the Next Level.

FITNESS: Consistency over intensity.
When it comes to fitness, consistency will always win out over intensity. The person who works out 3-4 days a week for 30-45 minutes year round will always be in better shape (on average) than the person who does an intense 8-week stint of working out 6 days a week for 2+ hours but only does this once or twice a year. The person who monitors their food & nutrition intake daily will always (on average) be in better overall shape & health versus the person who goes on an extreme diet for 4 weeks only to fall off and binge uncontrollably for days/weeks in response to trying to be so intense. The actionable takeaway is to find a consistent workout & nutrition program that you can sustain over many years. Ideally, it is one that the longer you follow the easier it is for you to be in better shape & health each & every year.

MONEY: Keep investing simple (and boring).
This past week I talked through my investments over the last several years with a good friend and fellow multimillionaire. While overall I’ve made massively great returns on the boring stuff like weekly automated investments into low-cost index funds like VTSAX (Vanguards Total US Stock Market Funs), a majority of my investments that I made that were “sexier” lost money. And even though my investment portfolio is up overall, I would have made an additional $100k-$200K+ if I had forgone the sexier investments of crypto & crypto-related investments, chasing single stock investments that were a “sure-bet” & even my more noble effort of investing in clean energy ETFs. Fortunately, I have a long-held policy of only allowing myself to invest "play money" (5-7% of my total net worth) into sexier more fun stuff. The biggest takeaway for me was that if I had invested that creative energy of chasing sexy investing into my business endeavors & other worthwhile areas of life I would be significantly more ahead of where I am now. The good part about my investing losses is that I get to share this learning experience with others (that's you) to hopefully save others from losing money & time/energy that could be invested more wisely.

LIFE: Fitness, money & life are inherently spiky.
As much as as we all want never-ending growth every single day, the truth is the best we can work towards is a trend line that is going in the direction we want it to go week over week, month over month & year over year. And even then we still will have some weeks, months, and even some years where we are down. Yet, if we can zoom out and look at our fitness, money & life over a longer timeline with more of a macro overview we will be able to assess what 20% of activity leads to 80% of our gains. With this insight, we can double down our efforts on the 20% to create even more reliable & consistent growth in the right direction. This is a never-ending process. A well-examined life is a life well-lived with massive gains as a natural byproduct. I suggest a quarterly & annual review to identify the 20% so that you can consistently reduce the negative spikes & increase the overall trend-line speed in the right direction.

BONUS: How I get shredded in 2-12 weeks without fail.
