Weekly Tips, Tools & Strategies to alchemize your Fitness, Money & Life

“A man's friendships are one of the best measures of his worth.”
— Charles Darwin, Naturalist

My friends & I did a Spartan Obstacle Course Race together & it’s a memory that continues to pay happiness dividends 2.5 years later.

Greetings my fellow Life Alchemists!

I recently had the privilege to Interview Chris Wark on the Alchemize Life Podcast (episode 45) about his journey to healing cancer. This was a deeply meaningful conversation to me as both of my parents are cancer survivors. My parent's cancer has been one of the most emotionally, mentally & spiritually challenging things I've had to go through and I know that I'm not alone in that.

My goal in recording this podcast was three-fold: (1) empower those with cancer to heal themselves, (2) empower those with cancer in their family to reduce the chances of getting cancer themselves, & (3) empower people to help family-members & friends with their cancer journey in an approachable non-invasive judgement-free manner.

Please give the episode a listen and share it with someone who could benefit from it. We're all in this thing called "Life" together & when we do the work together we go farther, faster & have a whole lot more fun!

Without further ado, let's proactively build your Fit Rich Life—FRL! Your weekly dose of actionable tips, tools & strategies to alchemize your Fitness, Money & Life to the Next Level.

FITNESS: Workout with friends.
One of the best ways to reinvigorate your workouts & add massively to your life-satisfaction is to workout with friends. I love to hit the gym with my friends, do outdoor workouts with friend, rollerblade with my friends & hike with my friends. During my year-end review these are always some of my favorite experiences during any given year. Sure, it's more of a scheduling hassle than just hitting a workout solo, but it's worth the effort at least a couple times a month for the happiness dividends you will reap for years to come from the memory of the experience.

MONEY: Take advantage of the Backdoor Roth IRA loophole.
A backdoor Roth IRA is a way for high-income earners to contribute to a Roth IRA when their income exceeds the IRS limits for direct contributions. If you earn $153K or more (or $228K married-filing jointly) then you can't contribute directly, but you can utilize a neat little tax loophole to sock away more tax-advantaged money if you're like me and you already max out your 401K every year. The cutoff deadline to contribute to the Roth IRA for last year (2022) isn't until April 18th, 2023 so you still have time to jump on this. Here is a blog article that explains how to do it with Vanguard but you can google "how-to contribute to a Backdoor Roth IRA with XYZ" (xyz being your brokerage firm you use to invest).

LIFE: What's your dream ordinary workday, week & weekend?
My dream ordinary workday includes waking up early to do some creative work (like working on this newsletter) for 1-3 hours, then hitting the gym for 1-3 hours with a friend or solo, then doing another 1-3 hour block of work, then a nice meal at home or at a restaurant with the wife and/or friends, then recording a podcast or leading a Fit Rich Life Coaching Mastermind session, then having a nice early dinner with my wife, then enjoying some shows, movies or books together and then going to bed nice & early. My ordinary dream weekend would include an outdoor adventure like hiking or rollerblading with friends, a nice post-workout restaurant meal al fresco & a couples massage with my wife. If you've never scripted out what your "dream ordinary workday, week, & weekend" would look like I highly recommend it. Once you have it clearly written out then you can consciously & proactively work towards manifesting it in your real life. Then before you know it, you're living your Best Life. It took me years to get to this point in my life, but knowing where I was headed got me there a whole lot faster than aimlessly plodding through life. Pro tip: don't worry about scripting out vacations & big events, focus on what your dream life would look like during a normal week of work & a normal weekend because a majority of any given year is filled with ordinary weeks. The trips & big events are highlights & important, but you want the 80-90% of the year to be the stuff of your dreams if you're maximizing for happiness like me.
