The Power Of Walking, Build A Wealthy Identity, Looking Forward To Your Life | FRLN 119

Your body & mind transform when you move them more.

Your wealth grows when you rewire the beliefs running the show.

And your happiness multiplies when you give yourself things to look forward to.

This week, I want to share my favorite underrated fitness habit, the identity shift that took me from $80K in debt to millionaire, and a simple framework for building more joy into your life.

But first, a couple of quick updates.

I just released Episode 104 of the Fit Rich Life Podcast. It's a rebroadcast of an interview I did on The Compounding Project podcast about how I've reversed my age by 12 years, VO2 max training, and many of the things I do to maintain elite fitness at 43. If you haven't listened yet, I think you'll really enjoy this one.

Also — my younger brother is visiting me here in Santa Cruz. He flew in from Washington, and we've been having an absolute blast exploring epic hikes together. Wilder Ranch. Shark Fin Cove. Point Lobos. And in about an hour, we're heading out to play a few hours of pickleball with my local club.

It's been one of those weeks where life feels rich AF.

Alright, let's get into it.

FIT — The Power Of Walking

I'm going to say something that might sound too simple.

Walking is one of the most powerful life habits you can use to continuously expand your life.

And I'm not talking about walking as a warmup. I'm not talking about it as a cooldown.

I'm talking about walking as a foundational pillar of your health, your creativity, and your life.

This week, with my younger brother in town, we've been walking a LOT. Trails, neighborhoods, along the coast. And during those walks, we've had some of the deepest, most meaningful conversations we've ever had.

Deep talks are my love language. And there's something about walking side by side — no eye contact pressure, no screens, just moving through the world together — that opens people up in a way that sitting across a table never does.

But walking isn't just a social tool for me. It's a tool I use across almost every area of my life.

I walk to write. Some of my best newsletter ideas have come mid-stride. Sometimes I write full newsletters on my smartphone. Other times, I record a voice note and transcribe it later. Something about the rhythm of walking unlocks creative flow in a way that sitting at a desk just doesn't.

I walk to solve problems. When I'm stuck on something — a business decision, a relationship question, a creative block — I don't sit and think harder. I go walk. The answer almost always shows up after I get my body moving.

I walk to stay lean. You don't need to crush yourself in the gym seven days a week. Walking is one of the easiest ways to burn calories, keep your metabolism humming, and stay lean without putting unnecessary stress on your body. It's low-impact. It's sustainable. It's free. You can do it anywhere.

I walk to explore. Whether it's a new part of my hometown or a new city while traveling, walking is how I experience the world. You miss so much from inside a car. When you walk, you see, hear, feel, and connect with a place in a completely different way.

Walking with friends is one of my all-time favorite activities. Walking alone is one of my favorite forms of meditation.

If you want one simple habit that improves your fitness, your mental clarity, your creativity, and your relationships all at once — start walking more.

If you want to live a fit rich life — make walking a main pillar of your lifestyle.

RICH — Build A Wealthy Identity

I grew up poor. The free lunch program at school kind of poor.

I didn't just grow up without money — I grew up with a deeply broken relationship with money. By my mid-twenties, I was $80,000 in debt and had no idea how to dig myself out.

Today, I'm a millionaire.

But here's the thing most people get wrong about that transformation.

The money didn't change first. My identity did.

Before I ever earned more, saved more, or invested more, I had to completely rewire the beliefs that were running the show in my subconscious.

Here are some of the limiting beliefs that kept me broke for years:

Rich people are bad.

Money is the root of all evil.

I can't get ahead in this economy.

I grew up poor (therefore, I will always be poor).

Sound familiar? These beliefs were running on autopilot. I didn't even know they were there for most of my life. But they were dictating every financial decision I made — what I earned, what I spent, what I thought I deserved.

So I replaced them. One by one.

Rich people help so many people.

Money is the root of so much good in my life.

I can grow my money and wealth in any economy.

I grew up poor — and that fuels my fire to be wealthy.

That last one is the most powerful reframe I've ever made. My past didn't have to be my ceiling. It became my fuel.

But rewiring beliefs alone isn't enough. You also have to change your environment.

Spend time with wealthy people. I don't mean this in some weird, transactional, "use people for their connections" way. I mean it in the most practical sense: when you're around people who think abundantly, who talk about building assets, who make smart money moves — it rubs off on you. Your normal starts to shift. What once seemed impossible starts to feel inevitable.

Find wealthy friends. Not people who look rich — people who actually are rich. There's a massive difference. The person driving a leased BMW and living in a luxury condo they can barely afford is not who you want to model. The person driving a paid-off Honda, maxing out their 401(k), and quietly building a seven-figure portfolio — that's who you want in your corner.

Pick up the habits of the wealthy. Read what they read. Study how they invest. Learn how they think about risk, time, and compounding. The gap between broke and wealthy is mostly a gap in daily habits and long-term thinking.

Put yourself in environments where wealthy people gather. Meetup groups. Conferences. Masterminds. Investment clubs. But a word of caution: some environments attract a lot of people who "look rich" but are not actually rich. Be discerning.

Your identity creates your reality.

If you see yourself as someone who's bad with money — you'll prove yourself right.

If you see yourself as someone who is building wealth every single day — you'll prove yourself right, too.

Update your beliefs. Update your habits. Update your circle. Update your identity. Then the money will come.

LIFE — Looking Forward To Your Life

One of my biggest secrets to happiness is dead simple.

Always have something to look forward to.

Not someday. Not "once I make enough money." Not "when I finally retire." Right now. This week. This quarter.

I break this into two categories: macro and micro.

Macro: The Big Adventures

I try to have some sort of trip, experience, or adventure booked for every quarter of the year. Sometimes it's a conference. Sometimes it's a road trip with my wife. Sometimes it's an international trip. Sometimes it's a workshop or retreat.

This year, one of them will be competing in a pickleball tournament — something I've been looking forward to for months.

Here's the key: it doesn't have to be extravagant. It just has to be something that lights you up when you think about it. Something that makes you say, "I can't wait for that."

When you have something booked on the calendar, it shifts your energy. You're no longer just grinding through the days. You're building toward something.

Micro: The Daily & Weekly Wins

This is where most people miss the boat.

You don't need to wait for a vacation to feel excited about your life. Every single day and every single week, I make sure I have things on the calendar that I genuinely look forward to.

Daily, it's pretty easy for me. I get fired up about my workout. I look forward to pickleball — whether I'm drilling or playing. Those things anchor my day and give me energy.

Weekly, it's writing this newsletter and recording podcast episodes. Those are creative outlets that light me up and remind me why I built this life in the first place.

Here's my challenge to you: Look at your calendar right now. If there's nothing on it that excites you this week — add something. A workout with a friend. A coffee date. A hike. A movie night.

And if you don't have something bigger booked for this quarter — book it. Today.

Life is not meant to be endured. It's meant to be designed.

And the simplest design hack I know is this: always have something to look forward to.

ACTION — Keep Expanding

Pick one and implement it this week:

• FIT — Go for a longer walk than usual.
Use walking as more than just exercise. Go for a walk to connect with someone you love, clear your head, solve a problem, or generate new ideas. Let walking become a tool for your health, your creativity, and your life.

• RICH — Rewrite one money belief.
Ask yourself: What belief about money is keeping me smaller than I need to be? Then replace it with one that supports the wealthy identity you want to build. Your beliefs shape your actions, and your actions shape your financial future.

• LIFE — Put something on the calendar that excites you.
Book one thing that gives you something to look forward to. It could be a trip, a hike, a dinner, a pickleball session, a weekend away, or even a walk with a friend. Build anticipation into your life on purpose.

Your body transforms when you move it more.

Your wealth grows when you rewire the beliefs running the show.

And your happiness multiplies when you give yourself things to look forward to.

Over time, those choices compound into something powerful:

• A healthier, leaner, more energized body.
• A wealthier mind and a stronger financial life.
• A happier life filled with more joy, meaning, and momentum.

That’s the foundation of a Fit Rich Life.

To your health, wealth, and happiness,
