“You try something, it doesn't work, and maybe people even criticize you. In a fixed mindset, you say, 'I tried this, it's over.' In a growth mindset, you look for what you've learned.”
— Carol Dweck, American Psychologist

Greetings Fit Rich Fam!

I'm on Holiday visiting my Wife's family in Huntington Beach, California.

We came down to celebrate Chinese New Year and the beginning of the Year of The Dragon.

If you've been following my work sometime or know me personally you know that is personally meaningful for me as my long-time nickname is "Dragon" which captures my fiery spirit and magical approach to life.

Without further ado, let's proactively build your Fit Rich Life.

This is your weekly dose of actionable tips, tools & strategies to take your Fitness, Money, and Life to the Next Level.

FITNESS: Meditate to increase your Mental Fitness.

Meditation is a core part of my Mental Bodybuilding practice.

I've been meditating daily to stay mentally jacked for over 8-years.

Meditating daily increases working memory capacity via:

- Improved attentional control.
- Reduced mind wondering.
- Increased cognitive flexibility.
- Enhanced neural efficiency.

Additionally, regular meditation practice can lead to structural changes in the brain, particularly in areas related to attention and memory.

Overall, meditation promotes a more focused and stable mental state, which supports better working memory function.

Ultimately, meditating is like upgrading your super-computer and is a key strategy to stand out in the age of digital distraction.

I believe meditation is like exercise in the sense that there are dozens of ways to meditate and the key is to develop a meditation practice that works for you.

This means trying out different forms of meditation until you find the one that clicks for you.

I tried vipassana meditation where you follow your breath and it just didn't work for me.

I then tried several other types of meditation until I finally tried Transcendental Meditation, which is mantra-based.

It was so easy for me that I haven't missed a single day in the last 8+ years.

I don't think Transcendental Meditation is for everybody.

But I do think everyone can find a type of meditation that works for them.

And that's the key to being consistent with your meditation practice.

So don't be afraid to explore until you find a type of meditation that is easy for you.

MONEY: Build the Evergreen Skills to make more money.

The Evergreen Skills are writing, speaking, marketing, and sales.

Building these skills will increase your earning power, no matter what you do for work or what career field you're in.

I've been in sales in one form or the other my entire life.

First, as a Busboy and Waiter.

Then as a Student Caller for Stanford where I cold-called Alumni to raise money for the University.

I spent about 1.5 years doing Investment Banking internships before I spent 8 years in the Hollywood Nightlife business where I marketed and sold real estate in the form of the best tables within the nightclub at some of the hottest parties in Los Angeles.

I've spent the last decade building a Stanford Startup where I sell delicious and nutritious Snack & Catering programs to the world's top tech companies.

10-years ago I started seriously blogging and micro-blogging on Instagram which has empowered me to build my skills as a writer.

Almost 2-years ago I launched an online Fitness & Money Coaching business that has forced me to become even better at marketing and selling my services through social media (where most of my coaching clients come from).

A year and a half ago I launched the Fit Rich Life Podcast to improve my speaking skills.

About a year ago I relaunched my Newsletter (the one you're reading) to further increase my skills as a writer.

Writing, speaking, marketing, and sales are The Evergreen Skills that have empowered me to become a Multimillionaire, become Financially Independent, and only do work that I'm truly passionate about in the amount of time per week/month/year that is truly fulfilling from anywhere in the world.

Even if you're not thrilled with your current job, chances are that you are being paid to develop some or all of these skills.

So, instead of secretly hating your job, get excited that you are getting paid to learn these skills and do whatever you can to double down on using your current job to grow these skills further and start a side project that will grow them even more.

With time and proper intention, these Evergreen Skills will empower you to start your own money-making business in a field that you're truly passionate about OR at least make boat-loads of money in your current field of work until you identify work that is more aligned with how you want to contribute to the world.

LIFE: Build an Anti-Fragile mindset.

An anti-fragile mindset, coined by author Nassim Nicholas Taleb, refers to a mindset that goes beyond resilience by actively thriving in the face of adversity.

Instead of merely bouncing back from challenges, individuals with an anti-fragile mindset embrace volatility, uncertainty, and chaos as opportunities for growth and improvement.

They become stronger and more resilient through exposure to stressors, setbacks, and failures, adapting and evolving in response to adversity.

Building an anti-fragile mindset involves cultivating resilience and adaptability in the face of challenges.

Some strategies include reframing setbacks as opportunities for growth, embracing uncertainty and volatility as natural parts of life, seeking out discomfort to build resilience, learning from failures, and developing a flexible mindset that can thrive in changing circumstances.

Cultivating an anti-fragile mindset is a practice just like bodybuilding or developing a skill such as writing.

You have to consciously work on it every week or else it grows weaker like an under-exercised muscle.

Almost every week there is something in my work or personal life that requires me to flex my anti-fragile muscles, so instead of complaining about the problem (aka challenge in disguise), I get excited about getting my anti-fragility muscle workout in.

Closing Thoughts:

Taking new action brings about the new evolution of you and your life.

Here are some things you could do this week to evolve to the next level of your life:

1. Try one or two different types of meditation if you don't already have a consistent practice.

2. Consciously work on improving yourself at The Evergreen Skills--writing, speaking, marketing, and sales.

3. Take on the anti-fragile mindset and see any challenges in your work or personal life as a way for you to proactively become stronger by taking on the challenge with an empowering mindset that thrives when facing adversity.
